Singer/Songwriter/Producer born in Washington D.C. in February 1985. Raised around different styles of music and cultures, BillyD has a well-rounded understanding of many types of music. He instilled this into his own music as he developed his own personal unique style. His style and sound has been described as a Will Downing/Luther Vandross/Barry White sound. His musical influences are Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Peabo Bryson, Donny Hathaway, The Temptations, BoyzIIMen, Celine Dion, India.Arie, Pink, Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, Gladys Knight, and Patti Labelle. At the age of 9, BillyD started singing and writing songs in the privacy of his room. He kept it to himself for fear others would not understand his passion for what he was writing. Over the years, he would pen very emotional and deep lyrics to what would eventually be the songs that listeners would soon admire. In January 2008, BillyD decided that he would venture out and record his music that he had been keeping to himself for such a long time. In July 2008, the first song, "When Will I?" was completed. It would introduce him as a soulful artist with a story to tell. Shortly thereafter in December 2008, the uptempo club track, "Beautiful Stranger" was completed to show a fun side to the emotional vibes already displayed. Then in March 2009, "My Journey" was added to the now growing collection of what would be some truly emotional and moving music; a song about the rough path to overcoming all obstacles, prevailing amongst hardships, and surviving the storm of life's trials. BillyD is ready to keep making music that not only allows him to assuage the hurt and pain he has endured, but also to help others who have been through similar experiences to know they are not alone. The lyrics and message behind his music is deep, but this is his therapy and his release. If one heart is touched, then it will all have been worthwhile....it already has!
From BillyD:
"I have been through unimaginable torture and pain in my life which has changed my life forever. I don't know how else to get it out, but to sing. All of the support and love shown to me has been overwhelming and much appreciated. I thank you for all the comments and feedback on everything! I respect each and every one of you as artists and human beings. Music is life and I am glad to support it. My mission is to share the many sides of my musical repertoire. I sing, I write, I produce, and I arrange. There are many different colors to what I do so when you drop by, listen to what you like and enjoy. Even if its 3 or 5 or 15....doesn't matter. Just enjoy yourself! Thank you in advance for the love and support! It means alot!"
*****August 13, 2010 - SPECIAL UPDATE!!*****
Happy Friday everyone!
What an interesting week it has been. I have so many projects going down right now, its almost surreal. When you are in the middle of creating, its almost like a blur sometimes. I love music and the experience producing it is great to me. I have some new songs coming soon and they are going to be some major moves for me. Allow me to share them with you and update you on what is taking place now...
First off, the big one right now is "I Remember". This song is just so darn powerful. I had to take a couple days off before I decided to jump back into the mix. I have to really make it hit like I want it to. I hit some notes in the end that sound like I stole Patti Labelle's voice box, LOL! It came out well, but its going to blow many away as it did me...I shock myself many a time. Always asking myself, "Did I really do that??". It is pretty funny actually. This song has a way to go before its complete. 2 of IMW's finest are going to be featured on this song with me. I will not say who just yet...you will have to wait and see. It's going to be intense!
The next song to come is called "It's Never Over". This song is basically saying "it ain't over tell I say its over!" and this means alot to me. This song will be the lead off track for "The Impossible" album which I want to release this Fall/Winter. I have enlisted a good friend of mine to help me deliver this strong message and conviction. I hope you truly enjoy this piece once its released. Going to be hot!
"Starting Over" is a song I wrote about turning over a new leaf and starting brand new. I had to write a song about this because it was so true in my life. I know many feel that they have to make changes and start over in their own personal lives. This song will hit home to many because its a universal consensus. I am bridging some styles and sounds together that I hope everyone enjoys. Old blues with the new age sound. You are in for a real treat, my friends. I promise!
I have written a song called "Hand In Hand" that is reminiscent and inspired from the "We Are The World" track. I have always wanted to write and produce a song with a huge cast of artists singing together with me. This song right here is going to be a collaboration, but with someone I strongly feel can deliver the emotion and passion needed for this. He and I have similar styles and I couldn't have found a better musician/friend to sing with for this. This song is about uniting together to achieve peace and love. This one will develop real soon. Really looking forward to this one.
"Letting Go" showcases a brand new sound from me unheard of until now. A great friend of mine is lending his guitar goodness to this one for me. He and I have worked together before and this song will be the one that goes over the top. I couldn't believe I had come up with a song like this. The lyrics alone are self explanatory. The music is nothing like I have ever experimented with before and will have you up and moving...I guarantee it!
"One Of These Days" is a song that is long overdue, but because the group who is working on this with me is very busy, I patiently wait for their schedule to clear so that this song can be finished the way I envisioned it some months ago. I love this band and their music is of the highest class to me in Indie Music today. I would wait eternity to work on anything with them. It is a total honor and I look forward to September and having them grace this track with their amazing gifts. Something special to look forward to indeed.
Those are the 6 songs I am currently working on right now and 4 of them I hope to release this month. I am always open to collaborations and welcome them with open arms. There are some songs I am also working on that are taking a bit longer to develop that I didn't mention, but are in the works as well. I have nothing but respect for all of the amazing artists in Indie Music. It is fascinating to see all of the wide ranges of expressions out there. I can only hope that the music continues to flow out of me like this. I go through my ups and downs, but music is special to me and I totally enjoy making it. Such a release! _______________________________________________________________________
There is more music on the way! Collaborations are coming in still, so get ready for that! Here are some of the artists that I have collaborated with so far. Please show them some love...they would totally appreciate it!
